Early period: cycle day 23

My husband and I have been ttc baby number 2 for over 2 years. I'm overweight and working on it (lost over 40lbs over the last 6 months) I have irregular periods, anywhere from 32 days to 48 days but am otherwise healthy. I've been to gyno and had fertility testing done and they tell me everything looks great, I'm fertile and seem to be able to ovulate, the problem was always just figuring out when I would ovulate due to the irregular cycle and the fact that I'm overweight. I was 220lbs when I got pregnant with baby number 1 and am currently at 240. They seem to think that extra 20 lbs will solve everything. I've been using digital clear blue opk for a few months (all 20 test strips in one month) and thus far have not seen even one solid smile. It's always about 12-16 flashing smiles and then I'll get AF. This month I got my period on CD23 which is extremely abnormal for me and I'm at my wits end. My doctor has assured me it's only the weight, although she did prescribe Metformin, which seemed to do nothing for me. Does anyone else have a similar story or experience, or is anyone currently going through something similar?
