Baby with a fever

Just a little PSA, if your little one feels warm, make sure you do a rectal thermometer reading for the most accurate reading. My little guy is 11 weeks old and has RSV. A couple nights ago he woke up and felt warm. I checked him first with an ear thermometer bc it was nearby from my older kids being sick and it said 98.9, I knew that wasn't right (even though some of the peds in our office use them on the little guys) so I did an underarm bc that's how they do it in the nicu and it came out 99.9. Since I got a high reading I decided to do a rectal just to get the most accurate and it was 102.4. We spent the next 5 hours in the ER. My little guy was poked and prodded trying to get an IV which they never got but luckily they were able to get enough blood for cultures bc they wanted to send him for a lumbar puncture if the blood didn't work out. We're on day 3 of the RSV diagnosis and he still spikes a temp from time to time and were on a nebulizer. Sick little guys is no fun.
