Visitors at the Hospital?

Question

Is it normal to not want to even let anyone know the baby has been born until I'm home? I've had like three people telling me to call them when I'm in labor and I just think that's a little inconvenient for me... And they don't seem to care after I say no. Did any of you hold off on visitors until you got home? I REALLY NEED ADVICE ON THIS SUBJECT THANK YOU GUYS:)

I don't see anything wrong with you not letting people know until afterwards, especially if that works best for you. It's your baby and ultimately your decision : )

I'm not letting anyone know until after I'm home because the last thing I want is to be overwhelmed by a bunch of family members trying to visit me, take pictures, etc, while I'm trying to recover from labor and delivery. Plus, I like privacy and want time to bond with my baby.

With my first I had no visitors. I'm glad I did it that way. It gave me time to adjust to being a new mom. There were a few people who were offended but ultimately it is about me and my baby. For my second child I allowed visitors but no one came. In all fairness, my son was in the NICU so no one could really see him anyway. Ultimately, it is up to you what you do. If you say no visitors in the hospital will reinforce it.

You do what you are the most comfortable with! You're about to go through something exhausting, emotional, painful, and beautiful and it's going to be hectic, crazy, and you absolutely have the right to set any rules or boundaries you feel are right. Good luck!!

You are not the only one, quite frankly it is so annoying to have people there while you are trying to begin breastfeeding and show your baby how to.

I'm debating because I know my hubby wants his family there but I want his attention and concentration. I don't want to have to be calling him from the waiting room and get (god forbid) his mom coming instead because he's visiting! Honestly thinking of not telling anyone.....but I'd have to hide our phones to keep him from calling the world and putting it on Facebook

It's best to tell them YOUR plan now that you aren't accepting visitors till you're home.  I didn't want visitors but didn't have the courage to let people know that I only wanted my husband with me while I was in labour and in the delivery room. Long story short, I was in labour, in pain and in came the visitors. Needless to say, the pain turned me in to a very irritable grizzly bear that snapped at everyone to leave me the bleep alone, and I'll call you after I've had MY first day with MY baby. Everyone understood and after my apologizing when I got home from the hospital,they all said I should of just told them how I wanted it in the first place. 
If you don't want them there, tell them before hand.

I wasn't on my phone with my whole labour or until I was home with my baby I let my partner text and phone a few people but didn't even really want loads of people over right away so I just let one or two people come a day when I was ready! We're the ones giving birth and looking after this baby! People just want cuddles and they get to leave haha do whatever you want and don't worry about anyone else there just excited xxx

I'm telling my parents and my fiance's mom, but they are the only visitors allowed. I won't be announcing it to anyone else, but if my family does they've already been told to make it clear I'm not allowing visitors. Anyone else who comes to the hospital will have to drive right back home.

I basically didn't let anyone come. 
Each close family member came once, for a brief visit. My labor was very private also, and as we had an unscheduled c-section (babe turned head up the day of labor!) I was at the hospital for a while and was needing the extra social energy just for myself and baby. 
I'm really glad that I set boundaries and stuck with them.
