Not listening to doctors order?

Question

I was told not to travel after this point in my pregnancy. However my sister is having her baby this week and she lives 4 hours (driving) away from me in VA. I don't think I would miss it for the world!

Doctor said no traveling but I just have this strong itch to go! I will be 36 weeks.

Being in a car for 4 hours isn't a big deal for me.

Should I just go?

Keep in mind she lost one of her twins and has no family in VA, just us in NJ.

I would go, but take a break every hour to prevent blood clots while driving.

I'd go. But I'm not the sort to stay home for a month in case baby decides it's time to show up... I suppose you ought to at least look at places you could deliver along the route if necessary...

My doc said to stop every 2 hrs min, and walk for at least 10 mins before resuming car ride. If it were me I would probably go, but I would take a copy of my prenatal records with me just in case...you never know if baby decides to come early or how fast labor comes...

Maybe he meant flying I don't think a car ride will interfere with anything

I think the only danger you would be in is not delivering at your preferred hospital- but your sister could give you the run down on her hospital! I would do it, 4 hours driving is not desperately far. Just get out of the car every hour to stretch and walk around :-)

As long as you're not a high risk pregnancy, I would go. Take breaks to walk and only stay a night then come back home.

I think as long as you stop often to get out and walk/stretch you should be okay, I'm sure his biggest concern is the possibility of you going into labor and being 4 hours away from home! I would go, I don't think I would stay home either!

If your dr said no...then listen. It's really not worth the risk in the long run! FaceTime.

With my first, I traveled home for Christmas at 37 weeks. It was a 3 hour car ride. Take b your records, stop every 45 mins to an hour to stretch and walk and stay hydrated. Good luck mama.

I'm 32 weeks and just drove 8 hrs round trip this past weekend to see my family... I was fine the whole way down there up until about 30 min before I reached destination I started cramping lightly. It only got worse and I was in extreame pain for the rest of the day. Stomach cramps and severe back pain. Ended up taking Tylenol late that afternoon because I couldn't take it anymore. Really couldn't enjoy being with my family because of the pain. It's taken most two days to get back to normal...said all that to say this. I understand your wanting to go and be with her. Just take it easy and make sure you stay hydrated and take frequent breaks! My Dr is cutting me off at 34 weeks but my baby shower is at 34 + 2 weeks so even with the last experience I am still going to make the drive down just take it a bit easier and not be in such a rush. Safe travels if you go!
