No, you don't have to. But if you don't do it ahead of time, you'll be doing the paperwork while in labor.

Pretty much. and then when you go into labor, everything is already on file.

We have to at labor. Our hospital doesn't do it ahead of time :(

It's better to do upfront because if you don't you will have to do it while laboring...
