Most fertile after delivery?

Is it true you are most fertile right after delivery? Any mommas out there having a surprise bambino thinking they were okay because they had just had a baby?!

A lot of women don't realize that they *could* be fertile after delivery because they haven't started their period yet.

It's not that you're more fertile, it's that women think since they haven't started regular cycles yet that they're ok, and they don't use any contraception.

Highly unlikely since you are bleeding heavily for around 4 weeks and if you're breastfeeding exclusively like every 2-3 hours it almost acts as a natural birth control. It's happened but I don't think you're extremely fertile or anything.

Yup that's why there are so many cases of irish twins. Just like every other mammal we are most receptive to becoming pregnant right after birth. Also most fertile right after a miscarriage too.

I'm not sure how common it is, but I have a friend that had 3 kids under 10 months! The first was a singleton, then she instantly fell pregnant with twins.

It's a myth that right after birth you are super fertile or more fertile than normal.  However, unplanned pregnancies do occur a lot in that window because many people mistakenly believe that breastfeeding is a fool proof form of birth control.  Heck, even my 30-plus years of experience ob told me at my 4week follow up that breastfeeding would be my birth control.  But no!!!  Don't trust it alone.  We knew not too from some stories we had heard.  At about the 6-8 week mark, even breastfeeding your ovaries can wake back up.  Just use your normal birth contort methods and you will be just as safe as any other time.  No such thing as super fertility.  If anything, breastfeeding combined with another method will be extra protection.

So I heard you are most fertile after delivery. Even if you are exclusively breastfeeding, you still have a chance of becoming pregnant, it happened to my cousin and her kids are 13 months apart.

You shouldn't be having sex for at least 6 weeks after delivery, no matter how you give birth. It's dangerous and can lead to infection. 
So, even if you are fertile in the first 21 days, there's no way you should be having sex anyway.

After having my first I was warned by a nurse in the hospital that yes the first 21 days after baby is born are extremely fertile days... However, I have never encountered any one who has become pregnant in that time. But I don't most women are not having sex that soon after having a baby.

Its relatively accurate. I received a 3 month depo shot after my second, breastfed, and used condoms and still ended up with a surprise number 3.

Yup happened to me 3 months after i had my first little boy. Went for my 6 weeks check up, everything was good, got cleared for sex and couple weeks later bam pregnant again. I'm due with baby #2 when my first turns one year old!
