Long story short, my in laws got divorced almost 20 years ago and my MIL and her family still hold a grudge and completely despise my FIL even though they have both moved on and been remarried. His name is Christopher. We decided on Christopher Joe as the name for our son (my dads middle name is Joe. So, our son will be named after both of our dads) Today, my MIL told my husband that she feels like we chose the name Chris to spite her and that she is really upset about our name choice. 

I'm just really worried that this is going to cause lots of problems in the long run. Has anybody else had a problem with family not agreeing with the name you've chosen? How did you handle it?!
