do labor contractions feel more like gas/period cramps?

I'm 38 and a half weeks and since yesterday my contractions have been feeling more intense. Before they were very mild and just uncomfortable only in my lower abdomen. Now it feels like gas or period like cramps along my lower back and all over my stomach. I'm just wondering why they feel so different. Anyone experience this?

When I went into labor I honestly didn't even feel my contractions for about 4 hours, I only knew I was having then because I was at the hospital being monitored haha. After 4 hours they started picking up and it felt like period cramping that would be dull and build in pressure then slowly go down again. Once I got even further along in labor it felt like really, really bad period cramps that would just NOT go away. Cramps that when I was walking I couldn't talk or walk I had to stand still until the contraction passed.

When I went into labor my contractions spread to my back and were quite painful! At the beginning they were sort of like period cramps, but then they really started to almost have a burning sensation!

I can't answer your question but I am feeling the same, nothing regular yet but been getting the same pain all week on and off , defiantly getting stronger and more frequent as the week goes on. Interested to know if these are very early labour pains
