Switching to pumping?.

Question

I had my daughter Tuesday via unplanned c section. I've always planned on breast feeding and now I'm having a lot of issues with latching. I'm honestly terrified that I'm doing this all wrong. I decided to switch to pumping because my nipples were bleeding a lot and I can't go to a lactation consultant until Tuesday. I'm just thinking bottle feeding I'd be able to see what she's getting n not worry if she's on correctly.

I feel like a failure lol my birth or labor didn't go anywhere near how I expected and just planes to go with the flow and now this is hard too along with being a new mommy. I keep crying about it and panicking. I hoe I'm not alone alone.

I know some of these are extremely graphic however it's a good bit of things you can try. And pumping can help with the engorged breasts but try to get back into helping latch asap

Have you tried a nipple shield? I had latching issues with my daughter as well and I used a nipple shield for around 7 weeks and it worked wonders!! Don't give up you can do this!

Birth "plans" don't go as planned most of the time so don't beat yourself up about that. It still is a bummer but know that it's rare for birth to follow a plan. It's also common to have nipple issues in the beginning while you and your baby are learning how to do something that is way harder than it is made out to be!  Pumping while your nipples heal is great and I've heard of many woman/babies who get back into breastfeeding after everything heals. You don't have to give up!

My situation is almost exactly like yours! Unplanned c section and a baby that can't latch. Unfortunately we are still trying to figure it out at 6.5 weeks, but through pumping my milk is making her nice and chunky. Her latch is slowly getting a little better. Hang in there and don't feel guilty about whatever you decide!

Check with your obgyn you might have postpartum depression. You sound very down. And try googling different latching techniques. And look into nipple sheilds and lotion for your nipples. Try looking at Pinterest they have good tips for breast feeding moms. If you're doing it right it won't hurt. And also don't be discouraged things will eventually get better. Good luck!

I had to start pumping due to painful nipples, when my LO was 3 days old. I've been pumping for 5 days now. My supply has come in strong and my nipples have healed. I read up on latching and breastfeeding online and tried again for the first time today. It went really well. I needed to heal before I could try again and so far so good. Hang in there mama! If you need to pump before you see your specialist then do it.

Don't switch to bottles it'll make it even harder for the baby to figure out latching cuz they are completely different latches, it could be a tongue tie or upper lip tie issue which could easily be fixed by the dr or the baby just might need a nipple sheild. As long as ur baby is gaining and having wet diapers and a poopy diaper every few days cuz they don't go as often as formula fed than the baby is getting enough don't worry or focus on how many ounces the baby is taking in cuz once the baby is going through a cluster feed you won't be able to just limit how much milk the baby will wanna eat constantly. Nursing is best stick with it and use your breast milk in between feeds to heal your nipples, my doula told me to pump some milk n put in ur nipples and let air dry n it should heal right up . n use coconut oil on ur nips when u feed its fine for the baby to ingest no worries !(:
