Babies & TV

ALF
I'm home alone with my 4 month old on weekends while my husband works.  I typically have the TV on for background noise but keep the picture off (mostly so our dog doesn't bark at animals on TV lol).  I was recently reading an article that said that babies that young shouldn't have any TV time.  I'm not putting my baby in front of the TV; just using it for noise in the house during the day and I do watch shows while baby is sleeping or sometime the picture is on while we're playing.  Just  curious to know what others think and if you have TV on around your LO?

To be honest I am usually home with the baby and am lucky if he takes a nap through out the day. So if I need to put him in his swing in front of the TV to do the dishes really quick or brush my teeth then I do just that. I make sure he has a toy to play with and that it has some type of music playing. He loves Winnie the Pooh. As long as you're not keeping your baby in front of the TV for hours then I don't see a problem with it.

I don't put my little guy in front of the tv often but when I do he is in his little sit me up chair or laying on the floor either way he is playing with toys and typically I only do this when I am right next to him preparing my lecture... He will play with his toy and glance up at the tv but in no way zones out on it.. But I am guilty of having the tv on for myself... When I am nursing him I watch kelly and Michael or catch up on shows that I miss at night. And if I'm watching something I'll put his back to the tv so he can't see....Not sure what the harm is on me having it on in the background while I play with him... I'm alone with him all day until my hubby gets home from work at 7! Sorry, I need some kind of adult interaction even if it is mindless tv lol I think I'll do this a lot less as he gets older and can move around

I'm sorry but my little guy is four months and absolutely loves Mickey Mouse clubhouse. Goes freaking nuts. He sits in his jumper thing and jumps like a wild man. I don't know if it's the colors or music but I don't see the harm

Yep i wouldn't make it to work if I didn't. My son loves Daniel Tiger. He actually talks back at him and laughs with him. It's not an a all day thing but it's a part of his morning routine now. 1 episode while mommy gets ready then it's his turn.

Yeah considering I have an hour in the morning to get myself ready for work and get my little girl fed and ready for work. And that's with waking up at 4:45 a.m. She sits in her Bumbo and watches the Octonauts while I get ready.

My little guy is obsessed with TV. He will break his neck trying to watch anything and everything. I put sprout on for him every morning and let him enjoy while I get ready.

We still have the tv on sometimes, but we try to keep her away from it.  It's really not good for them until past age 2, and they benefit from social interaction so much more than from watching tv.  Talking and playing with people and toys is much more helpful developmentally.  But, if your little one catches a few minutes of tv here or there, it's probably not going to affect him/her too much.  My cousin wouldn't have the tv on at all when she nursed because she was super paranoid her baby might watch - probably a little over the top.  But, we have another cousin who constantly uses the tv as a sitter....so frustrating to me.
