I work in an office and we get a lot of phone calls from vendors and customers all day. I can't tell you how many times I have needed to take a message and said "And your name?" And literally had no clue what in the world the person on the other line said.  It gets embarrassing and frustrating for both parties when you have to say "come again?" "What?" "Can you spell that for me?" Over and over.
