Does anyone homeschool?

I feel frustrated with public school and I have a lot of mixed emotions about it. I would like the freedom of homeschooling, I think it'd be great to go or do things without being tied down by public school's schedule. I also feel like there are so many benefits from homeschooling, like no more bullying or bad influences from all of the awful kids I have no control over.
But on the flip side, I have no idea where to begin with homeschooling. I worry that I won't be able to teach her and the selfish side of me really appreciates her school time for my sanity...she goes to school and I get a mental break.
Can anyone give me some insight? Why did you choose to homeschool? What curriculum do you use?

I was homeschooled my whole life and now I have a daughter who is 4 and we just started homeschooling her! We love it! She loves it! It makes everything so much more flexible and it's amazing to see what they're learning first hand and how they progress it is SUCH a rewarding feeling as a parent!

My friends homeschooled their 5 kids and their kids are amazingly smart and well-socialized. They enroll at a school which hands out curriculums to the parents. The kids are taught at home but are tested regularly and go to labs, trips, participate in plays and sports with other parents enrolled in the school.

I'm wondering what you mean by public school schedules and how they "tie you down"... I'm going out on a limb and guessing you're a SAHM if you have already considered home schooling your kids; so what could you possibly be busy with to feel tied down by schedules if the kids are already in school? Also, keeping your kids out of a social environment in hopes of keeping them from being "picked on or bullied" is a silly notion. There will always be bullies; there will always be difficult situations that kids deal with... Trying to shelter them from natural occurrences that happen to literally everyone is only going to set your kids back.

If my kids cannot get into the charter school in our area this next year, we will be switching to homeschooling. I'm not thrilled about it because it means I will have to quit work and postpone finishing school myself once again, but it's more important my kids get a decent education and they're definitely not getting that now. Me and all 8 of my siblings were home schooled, me from 4th grade up and I am very thankful for it. We were part of homeschool group that did a lot of pretty awesome trips and got together frequently so we were far from unsocialized. We tested every year against the public schools and consistently tested 3-4 grade averages higher then what we were. My parents used a combination of curriculum from different places, some of which were video classes or live stream classes where we could actually communicate with the teachers during class, so that was pretty cool. Some states require students to adhere to state guidelines while schooling, others do not, so be sure to contact your state's board of education to find out what their requirements are and that will help you choose a curriculum as well.

My cousins are home schooled. They are so behind in terms of a public school curriculum. They have zero social skills and socially awkward. They are in no way college ready. I would advise against it.

After doing homework with my 5 year old there is no way I want to home school. Bless teachers and all they do because it's definitely not for me.  I like doing fun activities and some studying with my daughter but I don't have the patience to teach her everything she needs to know. I also like school because she leans how to socialize with other children.  Especially  when there are not many other kids her age to play with on my bock.

I don't know how old your kid is but my friends who were home schooled when they were younger hated it. They feel like they didn't get the skills they needed.

I was homeschooled just for my 4 years of high school. I will be homeschooling our kids starting when they are in 6th grade, if not right from kindergarten.

I encourage this!

Growing up I was very close with a family who homeschool which in turn brought me close to the homeschool community! Every Wednesday they did go to a class at a local church to make sure everyone was up to par on the curriculum. They even had a homeschool prom!!  
There is a great community in homeschooling so your children still get social exposure. 
I don't know what steps to take to look into it, but I highly encourage it. 
The kids were all super smart too 😉

My siblings and I were homeschooled, my daughter is not.

I don't feel I missed out on anything. We had homeschool groups we were a part of that had park days, field trips, sports and even a prom.

That being said, my mom was not as deticated to my younger siblings schooling as she was mine. They are very far behind and I graduated a year early.

It just depends on if you feel ready to deticate your life to it. Abeka has great curriculum, the "What your 1st grader needs to know" books are a good start, they make then for kindergarten through 8th grade I believe.
You could always try for a year or two!
