Bankers giving out information ?

Question

So last week my husband and I went to the bank to sign insurance documents. We both still have separate checking & banking accounts in our own names. She looked up my account to reference the account on hand. She asks me "do you know how much you have in here"? I said "yes I do, thanks"! Then she goes on to ask if I wanted her to verify how much is in the account, I said "no thank you, I don't need the amount".  Then she blurts out how much I have.  I am in no way, shape, or form hiding how much $ I have from my husband, but what if I was? 
What if I was in an abusive relationship and trying to get out(I'm not), by saving up money. 
It just bugged me, is their supposed to be any privacy? I have a meeting next week, where I need to sign more forms, should I mention anything. Maybe to help the next person out??

That's a legit concern and I think you should call and let a manager know.

We never gave out amounts (or any info) unless the person specifically asked for it. You can ask to speak to the persons supervisor, because really she shouldn't have given the info out after you told her twice that you didn't want it. They'll just make a point to tell her to be more careful.

I know that this is probably totally irrational, but I would be afraid that someone else could have heard the dollar amount, followed me to my car and assaulted me in an attempt to rob me.

I don't know about the privacy rules, given that you had him up there with you, but why would she tell you how much was in there when you specifically told her no? If nothing else, that's crap customer service, and I would definitely speak to someone about it.

I work at a bank and that is so uncalled for! You should definitely let her manager know. It's a breach of confidential information. We also do see some customers that are going through a divorce or difficult time and that could lead to a big mess if we said information like that out loud.

Please say something. I hate when people DONT do something about it. You told her not to verbalize your amount and she did anyway... Infront of someone else.  She can't do that.  Just talk to a manager or something explain to them what you said to us. I would have said something right there and then.

Definitely bring it up. She was wrong for that. If he isn't on the account it shouldn't have been said. If you stated just once that you don't need that information,  she needed to stop.

I wouldn't even wait for the appointment to make a complaint. I'd call and make the complaint and then follow up at your next appointment.
