NIPT Testing?

Hi ladies!  Sorry if this has already been asked but I'm not quite 10 weeks and this twin thing is all very new to me.  My regular OB said I can go ahead and get the NIPT testing done, but my specialist seemed to say (without really saying) that it may not be very accurate for twins.  Then when I called the lab, they said my insurance company wouldn't cover it due to twins, but because of that they would offer me a reduced rate.  Is that because it's not effective at all on twins?  What is everyone's experience?  Sure I'd like to find out gender, but there's cheaper ways to do that.  Did anyone choose/choose not to get this done?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!

We did the NIPT test last week with our genetic counselor at our specialist's office. It all depends on what lab/company you use. Some companies don't have the capabilities to test for twins. However some do and we went with Maternal21 for our test. It's 99% effective but it can't tell which twin has the genetic disorder if something shows up, you would need to do cvs or amnio to figure that information out. In terms of gender, the test looks at your blood and within your blood is blood from the babies too. If they see all X chromosomes they can tell you it's two girls however if they see any Y chromosomes at all they can't tell you if it's one boy or both boys, but they can tell you there's at least a boy in there. We haven't gotten our results yet but should be getting them any day now and we are DYING to know! Hope that helps!!

I was told something like, with twins(and yourself) there is just much DNA to distinguish gender. We were also eager to know the gender! Through sonogram, The specialist was able to determine gender of both babies @12wks, and confirm it again @18wks.
