D&C, pill, or natural?

Question

Can anyone share their experiences with any of the three? I had a missed miscarriage, I'm 8w3d but baby stopped growing at 6w1d. Nothing is happening yet and I'm leaning towards either a D&C or the pill. I'm not sure if I can handle the pill, I heard it can be really painful, but my doctor's opinion is that she would avoid surgery if possible. Just would love to hear your stories. Thanks in advance

First I want to say how sorry I am for your loss and that you have to go through this. I also had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks in January. My dr gave me the same 3 options but suggested the pill to avoid surgery and possible scar tissue. I took the misoprostol early in a Saturday. About 5 hours after the first dose I started cramping then bleeding about an hour after that. The cramps started like mild period cramps and got worse from there. They were pretty intense but were gone by that night. I knew I wasn't bleeding enough and had no clots. Called my dr Monday and went for another ultrasound and I hadn't passed the sac so the misoprostol did not work for me. I had a d&c the next day and it was easy (physically). I was completely under anesthesia and had very mild cramping and spotting afterward for 3 days. Felt fine after that and had my period exactly 4 weeks later. Just know that no matter what you decide, you are strong and brave and will get through this. Sending positive vibes your way! Hope this helps.

So I feel like you are in a very good control position even though it's a shitty outcome. I didn't have a choice I miscarried at what I suspect 9 wks naturally ( 2 days before my first US) I didn't know what was going on I had mild cramps and spotting , Doctor said all can be normal. Well FFWD several hours later... I'm screaming in agony home alone blacking in and out of conscienceness due to excruciating pain and blood loss (I'm slightly anemic)  calling 911 while I go into contractions and pass the big sac and everything else completely naturally while on phone with dispatcher. The EMT confirms my fears and takes me to the hospital. The main subsided over the next 2 hours and so does the blood. My bathroom looked like a crime scene and I don't wish that upon anyone!! At the hospital and many US I did not need a DNC bc everything was cleaned out. I would opt for a DNC if I had the choice. After the natural miscarriage the bleeding finally stopped about 4-5 days later. I'm sorry you have to decide one of the worst things to happen but keep the ones you love close bc no matter how you slice it this is a very physically, mentally and emotionally draining on your body.

I did the pill and for me it was terrible. My husband was gone and my sister was with me but I ended up passing out at home and my sister called 911. I ended up in the er with really low blood pressure and lost a lot of blood. (I'm also a very small person and my levels run low anyways) The next morning they did a d&c. So I would just go for the d&c and get it over with. Much easier.

Hi Emily, I had a natural miscarriage at 6w5d. The baby had stopped growing at 5w so, like you, my body took a bit longer to recognize. It was painful but not excruciating. I was needing extra strength tylonel every time the dosage allowed it and I also had to use heating pads for around 12 hours. Once the sac passed my pain lessened a LOT. I began bleeding at 2 pm and the sac passed the following morning around 11 am. I stopped bleeding after 6 days. I hope this helps, sending love <3

I miscarried at 6 weeks and it came naturally but it wasn't that bad. I felt like my cervix burned but maybe that's BC I was early. I think though with a DC u know mostly everything us out but u still will bleed after too and the pill ud be waiting for it to start. If u take the pill, ask if they will do an us later to see if everything came out BC if not it can lead to infection and u will still have material left that will still show u r pregnant. My first time, at 11 weeks I had a D&C and had severe complications that is leading us to believe that's why my body is no longer being able to carry children.

My second, 5 weeks, natural and it was mostly painless but emotionally tough. Just felt like a hard period.

My third, 11 weeks, which was 2 weeks ago..  I opted for the pill since we think the first D&C may have messed me up and it was hell. Excruciating contractions and tons of bleeding for 3-5 hours, and I didn't pass it the first night so had to take a 2nd dose and finally passed it which was way worse than the first night. I was vomiting and bleeding so much I thought I was going to die.

Personally, it's all around a shitty choice. I honestly couldn't say what I'd do if I were given the choice again.

I had a D&C in September. We found out at the end of August the baby had stopped growing.  I was given the same choices as everyone here.

I choose the D&C for several reasons:

- I wanted it done, I didn't like the idea of having a dead baby in me

- in the week and a half between ultarsound/bloodwork, my body was doing nothing and I wasn't keen on an indefinite wait

- I get anxious when things are out of my control and the D&C felt like I had control over the when it happened.

My experience was very positive. The nurses and doctors were amazing. I was completly out so I don't remember the procedure. I woke up and had some mild cramping. I went home and rested over the weekend and was back to work the Monday. I had mild cramping for the first couple days. I bled lightly and spotted for about 2 weeks. My cycle returned 4.5 weeks after the D&C. For me I would choose it again if I had to.

We lost our baby in October at 11 weeks stopped growing at six weeks three days I had a D&C because my body didn't realize the baby was gone either best thing your body gets through it faster and you are able to move on quicker not a painful mess like doing it at home good luck and prayers

I'm so sorry for your loss! I found out I lost my first back in Dec. I was given the same choices but waited a week to see if it would pass naturally on its own. Unfortunately it never did and although the pill sounded like a better/cheaper solution, I heard of a lot of stories that sometimes it doesn't expel all the tissue and you would need to get a D&C anyway. So I opted for the surgery. Still bled on and off for about 2wks but it was good to know that everything had been cleaned out and ready for a fresh start. I'm still struggling emotionally thinking about why it happened to me (as most women do) but it's all in God hands and we just need to trust the timing in our lives, not that it makes it feel anybetter. I'm so sorry for your loss. ...At this very moment I am finishing what would be the natural method. I personally wouldn't recommend it. In fact I've passed clots a total of 4 sets  so far and before each one the pain is unbearable. I thought it would be like my period cramps since they are like contractions (this was determined in my first pregnancy, it was a breeze bc I was used to that kind of pain) but this was way worse and the ibuprofen 800 did nothing to help with the pain. I chose this method bc I had just found out at 9 this morning after an u/s determined my body was in the process of mc. I was supposed to be 11 weeks 6 days but the baby stopped growing at 7 weeks (which I still don't understand bc I just had an u/s Wednesday and was told my doctor should have seen an empty sac moving downward). I'm really sad but thankful that everything has happened in 9 hours. I was offered the D&C but I didn't want to be alone during the surgery. I hope this helps.
