How would you feel if someone refused to be in your wedding?

I was engaged once before marrying my current husband. I wanted my 3 sisters, my best friend, and my fiancé's sister (Avril) to be my bridesmaids. They all said yes. I'd been dating my fiance for 6 years and we spent a good deal of time with Avril and her husband. I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses. I planned a day for us all to go shopping and let Avril know. She never returned my call or text. I messaged her a few days later and told her that 2 of the girls had chosen dresses and offered to go with her whenever it was convenient for her. She never got back to me. Two months before the wedding, she texted my fiance to say she and her husband (who agreed to be a groomsman) didn't feel comfortable being in the wedding - or even attending the actual marriage - because they are atheists. The crazy thing is, I'm also an atheist and our ceremony was taking place in a non-denominational church (chosen because my parents were married there). A friend was officiating (not a priest) and there were no Bible readings. I was so upset by their behavior and that they waited so long to tell us. Up until that point, I'd only experienced that kind of judgmental nonsense from Christians and I was so disappointed by the selfish way they acted.

When my husband and I got married we kept everything fairly simple and inexpensive. Our wedding party was all local and had somewhere to stay. Groomsmen rented basic vests, pants and shoes (no jackets, it was May.)  My parents paid for the bridesmaids dresses and hair and make-up was their choice. I told them to wear any shoes they chose, old or new. I thought we were fair and kept things inexpensive.

A couple in our wedding got married later down the line and asked us both to be in their wedding. We had to travel and stay at the lake resort where their wedding was being held, so we had to pay $400 for the condo for the entire weekend. We had to pay for tux rental, bridesmaid dress and shoes which was several hundred dollars. Then I HAD to pay for someone to do my hair and make up because she wanted us all to get air brushed. Another $140 for that. Girls had to stay in the bridal suite all day and never got a chance to eat until the reception that evening. Oh, and it was 25 degrees in December and outdoors.

I had considered saying no but didn't want to be rude. After it all we were out $850 and didn't have the greatest of times. $850!! That we couldn't really afford.

I would totally understand if someone declined being in the wedding party. And even if they declined attending because travel expenses can add up.

My twin sister said she didn't want to be my bridesmaid because she couldn't pick the dress, I told her she is welcome to come to the wedding but it was her choice to remove herself as s bridesmaid and that she cabt just be one again. She choose not to come at all. It was my day and my husbands and I'm not letting anyone wreck that, which we had a most wonderful day.

In my wedding, my sisters boyfriend was asked to be our best man and he said no because there wasn't going to be any alcohol at my wedding. Then he didn't even come to my wedding. He is an alcoholic and won't go anywhere without his beer. I didn't care though, I didn't want him drunk at my wedding.
