My in laws and babysitting....

My father in law is an NBA member and just loves guns. Even my mother in law has her concealed weapons permit. We live in NY. We have tons of gun laws and there good with them and educated. What makes me nervous is that they are getting up in age. He's 73 and she's 63. There still able to live in there own house and are mentally clear. But they are aging. My husband and I are expecting our first child in june. I had never really thought about this issue before but last month when we took our dog over to there house he jumped on the couch and a gun fell out of the cushions. Now it was holstered with the safety on but it totally made me think about the safety of our child. My father in law keeps a gun at arms reach at nearly all times. In his car, in his bedroom, in the couch...... there all handguns as well. He does have a gun safe. It just makes me worry about an accident happening. I know they would try to be responsible and I know he would obviously probably put the guns away if our child was over but.....like I said, they are getting older. Everyone forgets and now with age they can be more prone. Obviously as our child grows he will learn gun safety but when he's young? It just makes me incredibly nervous when I think about letting them babysit which seems like my husband will allow them to do and they seem eager to help if they can. I would prefer to not give them benifit of the doubt though, my husband seems to want to. It's just a tricky situation. And one that I hope doesn't come to a head.
