Coming out of the infertility closet?

Question

How did you tell your family/friends about your fertility struggles? Or did you tell them? I am struggling with how to "come out"? Thanks!

Me and my hubby have told our parents, siblings and a couple of close friends. We told them one at a time and only those that we wanted to tell. They have all been so supportive and am so glad we have told them as it helps to speak with someone else other than hubby at times.x

For me, I've been very open to others about my endometriosis.  All of my close friends and family know I have it (as I was diagnosed via a laparoscopy at age 18), and if it comes up organically I will sometimes share it with others, depending on the situation.  However, I did make the mistake of telling my MIL, and she's now told people I can't have children- which is untrue, hurtful, and rude, as I never once alluded to that.  So, we are keeping it from the in-laws that we are TTC.  It is nice, though, to have supportive people in your life that are aware of your infertility struggles.  Even if it's just to vent, I've found it helpful that the people closest to me know what's going on reproductively speaking.

For me, it depended on who they were: I've talked to my younger sister about my struggles since PCOS runs in families, and I know she wants kids down the road. I don't share as much with my dad as I might've done if my mom was still alive. My older sister doesn't want/need to know. I've stopped sharing too much with my MIL because, although she genuinely cares, she has boundary issues. In most cases, I talk about it one-on-one or not at all.
