Evening primrose oil?

A friend of mine told me to buy evening primrose oil capsules and poke a hole in a couple of them and insert them vaginally to help bring on labor. Has anybody tried this? Should I wait and ask my doctor? I've googled it and of course like with any supplement there isn't anything concrete about it. I've never heard of doing this until recently

My OB gave me the go ahead! I take two capsules in the morning and one vaginally at night. I don't poke a hole because it will do its thing over time once inserted. I've been taking it for a week now, but won't be checked again until this coming Thursday, so I won't know if it has helped me progress til then. It is supposed to help with effacement and make birth a little easier by potentially reducing tear risk. I'm currently 38+6. I say try it! The capsules are cheap and it really has no risks! 😊

I just started taking them yesterday at 39+5. I took 2 capsules orally (one in morning and one at night) and inserted 2 vaginally before bed, 2 hours later woke up with intense cramps and contractions, they subsided after about an hour but I'm hoping that it helped soften my cervix and that was a sign that progress was made since I was only 1 cm dilated. Could have just been coincidence but if anything I'm hoping it helps with tearing

My doctor recommended this to help soften the cervix. Haven't tried yet though. Good luck!

I've been taking it orally and vaginally and I had my checkup Thursday and my midwife told me my cervix is super soft.. Which I think is because of the primrose oil.. I could be wrong..but I think it's worth a shot to try it 👍🏻
