Over time does the pill lower your chances of getting pregnant once you go off it?

I've been taking the same birth control pill for 5 years because it works really well for me, and I do not want to get pregnant yet. In the future however, I do. Once I go off the pill will my chances of becoming pregnant be altered in any way?

I was on the pill for 13 years straight. Then it took a year after coming off of it before I had a period again (I regularly had periods while on it). After that first period, a couple months passed without having another period. I was so used to not having them at all that I didn't think anything of it. It turned out that this time it wasn't b/c the of birth control. I was pregnant!

I had also had surgery for cervical cancer & was told I pretty much had no chance of ever becoming pregnant, especially within the first couple years after having surgery & it had only been a little over a year. I wasn't trying either.

I think that birth control PILLS are the least likely kind of hormonal birth control to cause infertility.

Answer

No. It protects you only as long as you take it. The Depo shot is the only birth control that's been shown to cause fertility problems after it is stopped.
