I'm thinking about going to get the BC shot. Does that help with your period and is does it keep you from not getting pregnant?

I started taking the shot when I was 16- got it before I was sexually active just to be safe when the time came. I was an excellent user of it (meaning I was in on time every 15 weeks), and just went off of it in November of 2015 (last shot in Aug) after I got married.

I would have occasional spotting while on it, but it was so light that tampons/pads/even liners really made no sense.

My first period (not one of those cute light periods, but more of a "hot damn!" REAL period) since going on it came just in time for Christmas. And then again for New Years. So that was a quick and irregular turn around for the first two, but things seem to have normalized now.

The shot, when used correctly, is 99.9% effective. There is no pill to take on a regular basis, which I found to be perfect for my lifestyle. It did also eliminate my periods- also super beneficial for me. All-in-all, personally, I can't recommend it enough. My period returned in a timely fashion, which is not the case for most people (difficult for those trying to conceive).

I may be an exception, though. My friends were not as lucky, and some had their periods for very long stretches of time while on it. It also can take up to 18 months to become regular once off it.

I bled for 6 months straight on the shot, kept waiting for it to get better and it never did.
It's good for preventing pregnancy though..

I just got my 2nd shot and i hate it. It makes my hair fall out and my period was 2 months long. Everyone is different though, and even though I go it yesterday, the place where I got my shot still hurts. I want the implant so bad but my mom said no. Btw, each shot lasts 3 months, it's about 99.7% effective, and it can cause infertility if taken too long, and you're not suppose to take it more than 2 years because it causes bone density weakness (which means your bones get fragile and weak, but you bones start getting stronger when you stop taking it)

I've been on the shot for 3 years now and my first couple shots I was bleeding heavily and often which I thought was normal, it eventually went away and I haven't had my period since, but my sister recently got on depo also and she had the same problem so she went to the doctor and they gave her some estrogen pills and it has gone away. I love the depo, it does increase your appetite and cravings so as long as you try to ignore them you shouldn't gain more then 5 pounds.

Please don't. I was on the shot after my second child and it was the worst mistake of my life.It does stop your cycle but sometimes you will bleed forever I started having seizures, I have hair on one of my nipples,and its not good for your bone's. Research it before you take it.

I've been on the shot for 6 months now. Had no major side affects, sometimes just a bit hormonal once I've had it. No bleeding at all, however have started spotting today. I didn't get on with the pill so the shot was perfect for me. I didn't put any weight on either. Hope this helps😊

I never got my period on it and gained a ton of weight! But I also just started getting really comfortable in my relationship at that same point so I think that had a lot to do with the weight gain also. I didn't like not getting my period

I got one shot. After the second month, I thought I was miscarrying, I was in so much pain. When I was due for another shot, I told the doctor "no way" and got back on the pill
