Overwhelmed by baby items?

Question

Trying to figure out what I need, the best prices and the brands! There is so much stuff and so many variations of each thing! 
Any insight on any kind of baby items. 
My biggest question is what does a crib need, obviously a mattress but should I buy more than one? And fitted sheets but what else, baby doesn't sleep with blankets right? Like I have no idea! Also bottles and warmers and sterilizes! I plan on breastfeeding and pumping and probably supplementing with formula!

You only need one mattress. They are usually covered in a plastic material so they wipe down if there is an accident. I recommend at least 4 fitted sheets. Never put baby to bed with blankets, they increase the risk of SIDS. But blankets are nice to have for snuggles and such. Bumpers are no longer recommended, and don't keep stuffed toys in the crib. I loved having a musical fish tank thing that attached to the crib. I never used a bottle steralizer, but it could come in handy I suppose. Make sure you have a good bottle brush.Look for bottles that decrease air bubbles and therefore gas. I liked the playtex ventaire, my baby girl never had tummy issues. Good nursing bra and soft pads are a must. I never used nipple cream but some women like it. If you get a pacifier look for one that wont obstruct the teeth, I liked the ortho style ones as opposed to soothies. I used a hand pump, so idk what a good electric one would be. A tummy mat that is colorful and interesting was a must for me, my daughter loved tummy time. Clothes are cute, but invest more in onesies and pjs. A good swaddle blanket (stretchy muslin works well, just don't swaddle the feet tightly as that can cause hip problems). A few cloth diapers for burping and spit up. I'd pass on wipe warmers as they tend to dry wipes out. Always keep at least one pack of the next size up diapers. And invest in a good baby thermometer, aspirator, nail clippers, and keep baby Tylenol in stock. Its great to give a dose about half an hour before they get their shots.

Those are really the necessities. I also liked having a small tub with a sling and the hoodie bath towels for bath time. The softer the better 😊

Babies R Us has an amazing checklist for what to register for. It's organized into categories, and then subcatagorized into 'must-haves' and 'nice-to-haves.' It also recommends how many if each item you should register for.

Even if you don't actually register through Babies R Us, their checklist is super helpful.

As far as brands... for my first baby, I just read tons of reviews on products I was interested in. Be a little flexible - you may choose a brand of something (i.e. baby bottles) that just doesn't work for you and baby, and you may have to switch. It's a learn-as-you-go process, for sure, but nothing to be intimidated by 😊

I would get a lightweight blanket. Definately get steriliser, bottles, teats. Breast pump, breast pads and nipple cream. What else do you have on your list to get? X
