DNA Gender blood test?!

Has anyone ever done this "new" blood test for genetic abnormalities and gender??? A friend was telling me her sister had it done at like 8-10 weeks or something and found the sex out early! Another friends said the same thing but since no one knows we are pregnant I just wondered if anyone has had it done?! How much did you have to pay out of pocket?

If you're under 35 with a low risk pregnancy, insurance will most likely not cover it. Even meeting the guidelines for insurance coverage, most will pay at least $200 to $400. The out of pocket cost for those not covered is between $1000 and $2000, and oftentimes on the high end of that or more.

My ob told me my Medicaid insurance will cover it. Hopefully she'll do it at 9 weeks since that's next week.

We are having it done and it's covered by our insurance. I would call the company that does the test and ask to talk to the billing department and find out if they take your insurance. They will give you a worst case scenario quote!

This test is done at 10.5 weeks. Once you are 35 or older it is performed and is usually covered fully by the insurance as its preventative prenatal care. It takes 7-10 days to get results back. It tests genetic abnormalities and gender. I can't wait for mine!
