Child support Help?

Ok so my baby daddy recently just told me he's tired of me so I left and we talk about how much is he going to give me each month, I don't work but I am planning to look for a job in the future, he only asked to see his son on Saturday and Sunday because he has 2 jobs on one he works mon-Fri and the 2nd one mon-Thurs he wins like 2,800 a month and that's with the taxes taken away , well he said he would give me $300 a month is that OK? We talked about me not putting child support on him as long as he gives what he has to every month....This is his only child right now & We live in California

This is not a good idea. In the event he decides to stop giving you money, he legally can do so if you don't have a court order. And he can decide to stop for any reason. He could lose his job, he could get mad at you, he could decide he doesn't want to be a parent anymore, he could disagree with what you're spending the money on, he could simply just not want to give you money. There is nothing anyone could do to fight that either. He doesn't have to give you a dime without a court order. And it could take upwards of a year to fight getting it started if you don't start from the moment the baby is born. Meaning, you could lose up to a year's worth of child support and you'll never see that money. Also, child support is based on his income. Typically about 20% if he doesn't have any other children and depending on your state.

Just wrapped up a 3 yr custody child support battle with my sons sperm donor. My only regret I didn't start the process sooner. I should have gone with my gut and filed for everything right away instead of agreeing to keep it out if the courts for a little while. If it's not signed by a judge he doesn't have to pay you anything, no matter what you guys agree upon. My advice go to the courts. If you guys are 100% over no chance things will work out don't put off going and filing.

What Melissa said is very true. I know many women who regret not getting it through the courts. It sounds harmless, but many things can go wrong. You can find an online child support estimator. It varies way too much to tell you exactly what they would say. He can always give you more if she desires, but at least you would have a starting point. I have a friend who gets $100  a month for two kids. Her ex works under the table so he doesn't have to pay his child support.

My ex didn't make half of what yours does a month and I got double what he is offering you. My ex and I get along so I opted to lower his payment but when you go into the office they tell you, this is what they owe to support their half of taking care of a child. Kids are not cheap and whether he has the child 2 days a week or 4 your child still needs things and as parents you are both supposed to provide them. I would make sure you are getting a fair share from him. Sit down and figure out every expense there is for the month, this includes anything your child uses or needs. Food, clothes, diapers, medicine, roof over their head, heat, electric, ect... split that and half and that's what he should give.

I get $234 foe one kid and $164 for my other kid. I would say $300 is plenty.

I would make out budget of monthly expenses and make him pay like 1/3 or 1/4 of it I think that's what courts do

My husband pays 17% to his first child's mother. She gets 83 a week from us and my husband after taxes brings home 500-600 a week. That's what the court ordered us to pay. So I think 300 is probably just fine, if you don't agree take him to court and see what they order him to pay.

There's a lot of factors into child support as well. It depends on what state you are in child care costs travel expenses and things like that. I'm in California and my sons sperm donor pays half of Child care and travel expenses (he lives in a different state).  So I actually get about 900 a month for my son. So him saying he's going to pay you 300 could actually be a lot less than what the state would deem him responsible to pay.
