Vaginal birth or C-section?

Question

I'll be 39 at the time of labor and I'm a first time mom. Would you recommend vaginal birth? Or C-section? My doctor said it's really up to me, and I read both pros and cons of both. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I don't agree with a doctor asking you if you want a c section or vaginal birth. You should try to deliver naturally and if there are any complications then of course the other route. Our bodies are amazing and you shouldn't be concerned because of age! I had 3 and now at 37 #4. 😊

There's new research that suggests vaginal births provide your baby with important bacteria that will help develop his or her immune system. This "good bacteria" it believed to help your baby fight infection and also prevents allergies and other inflammatory immune responses like eczema from developing. C-sections deprive your baby of receiving this "good bacteria," although there are methods called "vaginal seeding" (I know it sounds weird but google it!) that can help the baby receive some of the important bacteria. Additionally, breastfeeding also adds "good bacteria" to your baby regardless if you give birth vaginally or via c-section.

I am a FTM and scheduled for a c section due to medical reasons. I would go vaginally unless it is medically necessary that you have a c section.

I'm 41 and just had my second baby! Please don't be afraid of vaginal delivery. It is what our bodies were designed for.  Your age has nothing to do with it! I didn't even tear, had a kick ass brilliant birth. Not saying it wasn't hard work but so many of my friends had c sections and I was at the beach 3 days after mine and they were in bed for weeks and couldn't lift, drive, or do anything let alone swim after someone cut open their bellies. Eek. As Betty White said:' I don't know why people say grow some balls, they are soft and weak. Grow a vagina, those things can take a pounding!!' 😂🙏🏽 trust me it's the most empowered your ever going to feel and you will recover in no time. Try looking up Calmbirth and also a device called the epi-no both things that I swore by for pregnancy and delivery!! I did it with no drugs just some affirmations playing in the background. My husband will never let me play ever again! 😂

I had my first baby this past summer at 38. I chose a csection (even though people thought I was nuts and everyone had an opinion on it). So glad I did. It went great. Aleviated a lot of my anxiety about birth and the recovery was a breeze for me. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm 41 having my first. Choosing an elective C-section.

Those older women that say they would never chose this often have had children before which makes a difference. I'm not willing to take the risk of being an older first time mom and delivering vaginally. Read too many horror stories.

The older (first time mom) you are, the chances of being in labour for many more hours than a younger mom (or older mom who has given birth before), the more chances for complications, the higher chances it ends up with an emergency C-section anyway. Your cervix is not as elastic as in younger women which contributes to the longer labour. I'd rather not have an emergency C-section as your body will be so tired by then and yes, of course your recovery will be longer.

Good for the women hellbent on having a vaginal delivery, but do what is right for YOU.

I'm 36 this is my 4th child. My previous 3 were all vaginal. I want this one to be as well. Why have surgery of you don't need to?

I had all mines vaginal if you can't then do c section only time will tell. Our bodies are amazing were making humans over here lol

My doctor has had both - vaginal and c section deliveries herself.

She said she would never recommend a C-section. It is actual surgery and recovery is longer.

Personally, I would choose an elective surgery. C-sections are phenomenal when they are needed, but I wouldn't want the additional challenge of healing from abdominal surgery to deal with, as well as a new baby. I've had 3 vagunal deliveries so far and intend to deliver vaginally again, barring any problems.

I've used an epidural and gone without and was surprised at how much better I felt afterwards without medication, so I intend to go med-free again (unless circumstances dictate otherwise!)
