Ftm new to breastfeeding y do people pump and is it painful

I started pumping after about the fist week. I never have had supply issues, and have been able to store a ton of breastmilk. I started out only pumping 2-3oz(each side) 1-2 times a day. At 5 weeks now, I am pumping 3 times a day getting 5-6oz(each side). I breastfeed during the day and give a bottle of pumped milk the 3 times baby wakes at night. Husband usually takes night shift. My baby passes out too easy on the boobs at night so giving him a bottle makes sure he falls asleep with a full tummy. Pumping doesn't hurt, but if ur nipples are sore, they are going to be tender for the first minute or so of pumping. In my opinion, pumping was easier on my nipples than my baby who has a great latch..

It's not painful. You don't start pumping until about a month after baby is born. You just breastfeed the first month. Then you pump to store up milk for baby so you can go out and things like that. I would take a breastfeeding class if you can! It's confusing stuff :)

I pump so I can have some time to myself every once and a while without giving baby formula. Sometimes it hurts, but you get used to it.

Pumping isn't painful, I pump because my son wouldn't latch in the hospital the day he was born and I refused to let him starve until he "figured it out", like the lactation consultant wanted

My baby lost too much weight after birth and had trouble latching. I didn't want to formula feed so I pumped and topped him up with what was leftover. Now he EBF and is 3 weeks old but I still pump once a day and get a full feedings worth (4oz) from each breast. I am freezing it to have when I go out or go back to school.

I pump so i can attend school and he can stay home with dad. It's uncomfortable but not so painful that i cant handle it. The forst few times it hurts a little but after you do it a few times, it gets way better. Just like breastfeeding.

I pump because my baby doesn't latch well. It is a little painful when the machine starts but it shouldn't hurt after that if you have the right equipment. Make sure the flanges are the right size for your breast and you will be fine.

I pump because my body thinks I am feeding triplets and have an oversupply which causes painful boobs and when I let down, my poor kiddo chokes. So, I have a very full freezer already. Can't complain about that!
