Hair dye while pregnant ... is it safe??

I'm only 5 weeks but I've been told that hair dying and getting my nails (acrylic) done had too come to an end. Since its dangerous to do while being pregannt. Is this true????

I am a hair dresser and deal with it on a daily basis.  I don't have any children yet.. but my friends all were pregnant and doing hair and we are around those chemicals everyday.  Doctors can say that  you shouldn't get ur hair done and what not but think about us hair dressers .  Every day working and the babies are just fine !  Hope that helps alittle !!

I've heard both. My hair dresser told me she's had women come in saying that their doctor said it was fine and others who said their doctor said no.
I don't know...because so many doctors say different things I would try to avoid dying your hair. I've also read getting highlights is safer than an all over dye because when you get highlights they use foil and don't go all the way to the roots. But honestly I think you're going to get different opinions all over the place. Go with what you feel comfortable with but I would ask my doctor and see what they say! :) congrats btw!!

I would recommend foils. The colour stays away from the scalp and isn't being absorbed by your body. Just make sure your in a well ventilated room.

I talked to my hair dresser. She just made sure to not put me under the dryer after I got my BFP. She said she was around and using all the same chemicals while pregnant with her son and he is just fine

I would take to your doctor. I had my hair highlight while pregnant and I was about 5 months. Acrylics I am not to sure about because they do have a strong oder. Hairstylist will say you can pregant women still have to color people's hair, I would wait just a little bit till after your first trimester. Hope this helps a little.
