Last Name Troubles:Would this bother you?

Question

My hubs keeps turning down my favorite names because of our last name.

Would you name your boy "Emmett" Smith? (We live in Texas=he thinks of the Cowboys player)

Would you name your boy "Willem" (not William) Smith? We would call him Willem but hubs is afraid people would still default to "Will Smith" haha

Let me know how hard I should fight!

I have a boy with a singer's name in my class. Each of the adults I work with start singing songs when his name comes up. I would think Willem would be okay. I'd avoid Emmet though.

My mom actually used to be like this. But either way, what if you name him Ganondorf Smith and when he's older there's suddenly some guy named that who is famous? Lol not that I would name my baby after a video game player, but either way there's always a chance something can happen like that. I say just name him what you want.

Bein named after Emmitt Smith isnt anything to be ashamed of haha :) But if you dont want people referring to your kid as an actor or football player for the rest of their lives, i might choose something else. Never heard of the name Willem, neat! :)

I vote yes on Emmett, no on Willem. People will always shorten a name even if you don't want them to.

We like Charles or Charlotte and call them Charlie. But last name would be brown. Charlie Brown. We also love scarlett and Grayson. But that seems like a lot of colors for one name.

With a last name like Smith, almost every name is going to be close to some famous or infamous person's name. I'm not sure it can be avoided, so I wouldn't drive yourselves crazy trying to control it. Famous people come and go. Pick a name you like!

I like both of those names. I do feel your pain though. My ex husbands last name was Wright and when I was pregnant with our first kid, I wanted to name it Jett if it was a boy or Ruby if it was a girl. Jett Wright and Ruby Wright sound so TERRIBLE. I ended up letting him choose the name...which I regret doing lol
