Is the younger generation showing their real self on social media?

I'm asking this because as a young person I am seeing my friends posts such as on IG and it seems to be that not everyone is portrayed accurately

Social media gives us the opportunity to put our "best face forward" like a social resume. Of course their profiles are carefully constructed to make themselves look good. Everyone wants to be perceived as more attractive, more popular and more together than they really are.
I highly doubt that most older people are entirely honest on social media either.

Facebook is primarily used to show the highlights of life aka the good. People Rarely post the bad. Kind of putting on airs I guess.

I think it's 50/50. Some people seem to go all out and portray these cookie cutter lives but on the side you know that person and their life is garbage and they're unhappy. But then some peoples pictures really are their lives.

I post lots of food, memes, and my baby on my private IG. None really of myself unless it's a picture of my daughter and I.

I read an article online how people's lives are more "glamorized" than they really are due to what they post on social media. My favorites are the "no makeup selfie" on Instagram when they are clearly wearing makeup.

I show myself and positive events in my life. I don't take to whining and airing dirty laundry on social media others I know should follow suit

I show myself. Not personal information. But if im down, i share pictures or quotes for ME, that make me feel better or relate to my situation without giving too much away. When im happy as shit, im not online as much but i check-in and share songs that im turnin up to lol. So people can kinda sense my mood from my profile. Ive had people make comments to others, like, "what is with her depressing/boring facebook".  I couldnt give a fiddlers fuck what anyone thinks 😄

I'm gonna be honest. My social media makes it look like I'm some hippie chick always on adventures and with her friends.

In reality, I just use older pictures of mine sometimes, or spread out my posts of that stuff throughout a week and post throwbacks with my friends because I'm an introvert that works from 5:45 am to 1pm everyday and am tired as fuck.

Social media makes me look more put together, less tired, and looks like I have more free time. I don't know if that's bad or not, but I don't think everyone wants a picture of me with half brushed hair, as a barista, with tired eyes every morning on Instagram 😂

I seem to notice the younger generation likes to edit their pics quite significantly. For example, I will use my sister. Even though she is almost 18, she is overweight, has a lot of acne, greasy hair and stuff, she edits her pictures to the point where guys think she looks like someone completely different. It bugs the shit out of me to be honest. I love her because she is my little sister but she, along with a lot of younger people, seem to lean towards social media and people they don't know for approval of their looks.
Not only that, but she tends to use Twitter a lot and doesn't accurately describe herself. She portrays herself as this backwoods, country, beer-guzzling gal but she isn't. Ll she does is ride horses (and in my book that doesnt make you country). I've seen guys turn her down because of it too. They realize she isn't even close to what she says she is and she looks nothing like the pictures.
Just talking from some personal experience, so no, I don't think they are showing their real colors nowadays but I think they should be!
