Spoiling baby?

Question

I have a four month old and I'm afraid I'm spoiling her by picking her up whenever she cries. I try to let her self soothe a bit but I don't necessarily believe in the cry it out method. I don't want a spoiled child though! Please help!

I'm a firm believer that you cannot spoil a baby. They're made to want you.

I'm not sure about everyone else's Pediatrician but mine said to still be there and pick her up when she cries so she knows your there/still around to comfort her.  However, at 6 months is when you start to let them figure it out and calm
themselves down. I really do a little of both.. it's habit to pick her up but I also know she can calm
herself down depending on the cry at this point. 😁

At this age they aren't capable of "manipulating" you. They cry because they have a need and it's important to respond to them so they build trust that Mommy will help me when I need her.

It's the only way for it work it is to let her figure out how to sooth herself because not you will have whole other mess on your hands! Kids at a very early age will learn how to manipulate you and know what cry to do so you will pick them up! A month or so ago my little girl was crying and I went over only to adjust her and the moment I approached her she stopped crying but I didn't pick her up! Now that My little girl it 4 and half months and she smooths herself unless she is super crabby. It's tough to watch them cry but it's the only way they learn, I did it and made it through and now she's good to go!

I do the same thing.. My husband is concerned I'm spoiling him but feel like once they start crawling they're going to want to explore and forget about it when they walk! Even though it makes life difficult sometimes I am loving every second he is in my arms... We will be dreaming of this someday!

We always picked up our first and he's 3 and perfectly adjusted and Goes to daycare 2 days a week and is perfectly ok leaving us and socializing for a full day. Yes, I'll admit he needs physical contact often throughout the day, but how else to show your love then to let your child know you are there right?? Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but I know he will only be this way for such a short time in the grand scheme of life. He won't be 18 snuggled up to me on the couch so I think we will be ok. With that said, we do the same with our baby now..we too don't believe in cry it out.

My pediatrician told me our 4 month old was too little for cry it out.  So, we give her a few minutes to see what she'll do, and then I come in to reassure her.  At night, if she cries, I wait a minute, get her up, feed, change, pat her bottom till she's drowsy, and then I put her right back to bed.
