How Were You Raised?

Reed
I want to see if this just a southern thing or everyone does it. I have a friend that never speaks to my mom when she walks in her house. I've told her time again that it's considered disrespectful when you walk into people houses and not speak.
When I was coming up if I didn't greet my mom walking into the house she would turn me around and make me do it again. She taught me whenever I walk into someone's  home, sit in their car, I make sure I say "Hi, How are you?"
Is it just a southern thing?
