Scared to take Provera

My husband and I have been TTC for about 2 years now. My period would come and go but I haven't had one since October so my doctor prescribed 5mg provera for 10 days to help start my period. Has anyone ever taken this? I am scared cause I have heard some horrible stories. Everyone is saying they would bleed so bad the couldn't leave the bathroom or the they had severe cramps. I have to work and do alot of running around and am worried.
