Abusive relationship?

Question

This could be physically abusive or emotionally abusive (getting cursed out, controlled, beat, ect..) 
If you got out of one how long did it take you to leave him?

The abuse started about a year into the relationshit. It escalated, he ended up driving drunk and crashed us, causing his best friends to get seriously hurt. He went to jail, swore he was giving up the alcohol (which was the only time he was physically abusive), and that he wanted to marry me. Few months after he got out, it all went down hill. I just kept believing him every time he said he was sorry. It took me 3.5 years to realize he wasn't going to change and i deserved better. I got back with the love of my life ex high school bf, and 2 years later we were married, we have a 5 year old son, and are trying for baby #2. 
As much as you know you shouldn't stay, as much as people think you're an idiot for not leaving, I unfortunately understand just how hard it is to do. You fell in love with the abuser before they were the abuser. You hold out hope that it'll all go back to how it was before that 1st put down, or that 1st punch. I still have mental scars from that relationship. Some I tell my husband about, some I just feel I can't. If you or someone you know is in a relationship like this, you need to know that it will get better, and you DO deserve better. I know now that I will not allow anyone else to ever lay a hand on me.

It took a year but I never looked back after I finally left. I was so happy the day I woke up and his "sorry, I'll change." Didn't move me.

Finally had enough and saw the light! It was a bad breakup but met my soul mate 4 months later. Now happily married and trying to start a family

Not sure if I was officially in one. An ex of mine was cheating so he would get jealous of me hanging out with my ex (we went to school together) so he would say things that would get me upset. So after it got to the point of him disappearing for a couple of weekends without texting or calling and I'm crying and upset. I decided to emotionally leave the relationship and used him for food and money, like he was doing to me at first.

Took me 24 hrs to leave. But took me 4 years for him to completely leave me alone and get a divorce. Two near death experiences the first being the day I left and then the second when he got out if jailed and tboned me in my cat. If your strong which I believe all women are you will leave. Staying will only lower your self esteem and or end your life. Leaving is here and yes a restraining order is only a price of paper but if anything happens the police will know who did it. We dated for 1 1/2 years and were married for 2 years when we broke it off.  He was abusive the whole time.  (sexually, verbally, and financially - then at the end, physically).  I was sure I would die at his hands.

I was in one ... We were together for 6 years but he didn't start getting abusive until after our second child (she is now 4). He was psychically mentally and emotionally abusive to the point where I contemplated suicide over and over again . I ended up leaving after he got arrested for selling drugs. After that i found the man of my dreams who is an absolute king in my eyes who treats me no less then his queen my kids are happy I am happy .So if you are in one please get out now cause I can tell you it only gets worse. I have two little girls and didn't realize how much I was damaging them by trying to keep our so called family together . I was teaching them that it was okay for a man to do that to a woman . And it took me to see that I wouldn't want them in that situation to get the courage to leave .
