Why are IUD's so expensive?

I am 48 and in a relationship. I checked into getting an IUD without hormones, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Why are they so expensive?!

Keep in mind that this option can last for up to 10 years so while it may seem expensive at first, the cost should actually be divided over the total number of years you'll have it.

Your insurance should cover it. You should call your insurance company about it. I thought they were required to cover birth control. Mine was covered and I only had to pay a small office visit fee.

Pharmaceutical companies are looking to make money. If you pay for pills each month, more money goes in their pocket.

​An IUD is way more practical for women, but because of capitalism and misogyny, you're gonna have difficulty. My diaphragm was $75 with insurance...my doctor and pharmacist were surprised that I didn't want to "just take the pill".
