Baby detergent?

Question

I washed some of the baby's clothes, but the last time I spoke with my mom, she said I should have used dreft. I normally just use regular tide. Is it really that big of a deal? I'm assuming it depends on the baby and how sensitive their skin is, but how common is a reaction to regular detergent?

Just use something that is unscented.  I use All free and clear, pretty sure Tide has an equivalent if you want to stick with that brand.  Dreft is very pricey and doesn't work any betrer than any other deterfent.  The Dreft stain pretreater spray, on the other hand, is the best I have ever tried.  That stuff gets everythibg out.

I buy Purex baby, it smells so good and it's only about $4 a bottle compared to the $16 a bottle for dreft

My mom didn't use baby detergent on us so I don't plan on using it for my spawn either unless he gets a rash. I guess you can use it as a precaution though :)

A friend of mine washed all her baby's clothes in draft and after she was born, she had a reaction! Honestly I would use a free and clear detergent. You should be just fine with whatever you normally use for your clothes. People freak out about everything these days. Find out what works for you and your baby, not what everyone else suggests.

All free and clear is really good and its cheaper than tide. I used it for my first kid, and now I'm using it for baby number 2.

I get itchy from normal detergent so i use one called 7th generation I also add an extra rinse cycle.. I plan on using what I use on me for my daughter!

I use dreft I like the baby smell, and it's gentle. It's the only thing I'll use on my baby things.

I used tide with my son and plan to use the same with my daughter.... Use like half of the soap and go with an extra rinse and you should be fine:)
