TMI topic- varicose veins down there

Melisa • 35, Finally pregnant with #1 after IVF!! Due in May 💗
Ok ladies, sorry for the tmi topic, but need to discuss. So I've been having some pain in my vagina the past few days, mostly when I exercise. Then I was wiping myself and felt a bump and things felt a little swollen, so I decided to take a look with a mirror. OMG, things are looking gross! There are varicose veins everywhere!! What do I do? Is it dangerous? I've never had them anywhere. My dr appt isn't till next week and I'm certainly not calling up about this.
Anyone else have this problem?

I feel your pain, Melisa! Do you have them in your vagina or your butt, or both? I have them really bad in my butt (hemorrhoids) and was given a cream to apply 2/day. I don't have any in my vagina, but I have a friend who does, and it's completely normal and not at all dangerous. There's just a lot of pressure down there, especially the bigger baby gets, in addition to more blood flow, which causes the veins to protrude. Nothing to worry about, but I would bring it up with your doctor because I know they can be quite uncomfortable, and there are treatments out there. In the meantime, try sitting in an Epsom salt bath. I was just told yesterday by my doctor that it's perfectly safe to do. Just make sure the water isn't too hot. Good luck!!

Melisa- how are you feeling? What did your midwife say? I hope she was able to recommend something that will give you some relief!

Nora, lol at mount Venus! I drink a lot of water already, but have heard if you sit with your legs up it helps. I can't do it at work, so I try when I get home at least.

Sari, I've never heard of that. I'll have to look for it. I read to soak in Epsom salt and did that, but am not so sure it did anything. I see my midwife on wed, so we'll see what she says.

Hey Melissa, I'm sorry your going thru that and I hope the pain has subsided. I too had a friend with bulging vericose veins but her doctor told her it's just bc of the pressure her baby sits low on her. Nothing to worry about and that it should go away after you deliver. Hope you're feeling better :)

Valie, thanks for your response. That's what I've read (though there isn't too much out there about this). My friend said she had the same thing and they went away right after birth, but that seems like forever away! And I so don't feel sexy at all 👎👎
