I just found this online because I was curious about the fact whether you actually release and egg when you have an LH surge.

 I'm 17 almost 18, I've been on birth control since I was 13 strictly for medical reason so no nasty comments please. I suffered with severe heavy and long (2-3week) periods and is only ever be off my period for 2 weeks so my doctor made the decision for me to go on birth control. I've been on the pill/patch/injection/implant all 1 year each! My doctor put me on the injection and implant to stop my periods altogether as no birth control seemed to help in that case!!

But I was just curious whether the length of time and the amount of birth control effects your ovulation?
