Irish twins?

Anyone on here have "Irish twins"?

Did you plan for it? How did the name come about? How is it?

The term was once rather derogatory, referring to Irish immigrants having babies back to back. Which was assumed to be due to lack of education and poor living conditions. Now, it's simply used to describe children born within twelve months of each other to the same mother. It's no longer considered offensive. I don't have Irish twins, mine will be 16 months apart. So almost! Not exactly "planned", but in no way prevented.

My brother and I are 10 months apart. Idk what Irish twins are... but everyone thinks we're twins. Nope. I'm 10 months older. They didn't plan for either of us. We just happened.

My sister and I are Irish twins. She was born 7/14/93 I was born 7/30/92. We're 11 months apart and for 2 weeks we are the same age, we're best friends too :-) ❤️

My son was born April 15, 2016. 4 months old tomorrow. My husband and I planned on waiting til the holidays to start trying to conceive again, but actually found out yesterday that, surprise, I'm pregnant again. My due date is April 6, 2017. We had had sex only once without a condom and my hubby pulled out and now we're expecting. I'm embarrassed to tell people I'm prego again (I'm only 6 weeks along, so there's still a while for that) But I work at a physically demanding job and will need to tell a few people.

My son was also 7 weeks premature, so I'm nervous about having another baby so close together and of course what can happen to the new baby and to me. I feel bad bc my husband is actually really happy it happened this soon and I'm not. I'm still in total disbelief and do not want to be pregnant again right now. 😢 any advice ladies?

What it means is easy enough to explain. It refers to siblings born in the same calendar year, or otherwise less than twelve months apart. It's clearly a deeply derogatory comment about the stereotypical fecundity (and lack of contraception) of Irish Catholic families.

Well I am. My sister was born exactly 10 months after I was born. (She was 4 weeks early, so actually should of been 11 months) My mom and dad didn't plan it ;)
