Harmony Test - A review
Hey mamas! Just wanted to share my experience with the Harmony Test with the group. After some extensive research, we decided to take the Harmony test to screen for any chromosonal abnormalities, namely Trisomy 21, 18 and 13. There are many other tests on the market but this one we felt was the best in terms of turnaround time, price and most importantly, accuracy. Detection rates are up to 99.8% accurate and false positive rates are 0.01 to 0.08%.
I live in Asia and happened to be in Colorado for vacation during my 11th week. As a non-resident, I paid out of pocket $130. The clinic charged $19 to administer the blood work and the OBGYN consultation fee was $80.
After the nurse took my medical history, she checked my blood pressure and once cleared, she drew two small vials of blood from my arm for the test. It's not that much blood but I'd make sure you have some food and water an hour beforehand. The nurse says that some women do get dizzy, but it's not common. There's an option to choose whether you allow the lab to use the remainder of the blood sample for research. I checked yes. They can also include the gender for free. This is done by detecting any presence of the Y chromosone.
The lab, Ariosa Diagnostics is located in San Jose, CA so if testing in the Bay Area, I'd expect an even quicker turnaround time. Mine took 7 days and I received the results by email.
Overall, we are extremely happy with the whole process. Where we live, the test costs 8x as much and I suspect it's because of the shipping cost of the blood samples. Will definitely do this for our next baby as it gives us a piece of mind and for the price, it's totally worth it.
In our case, we are happy to report that the lil bub tested low risk for all 3 Trisomies... And it's a girl 💖
Long post, but I hope this helps!
