Should I be upset?

The first guy I ever had sex with passed away yesterday morning in a car wreck. We stayed together for a little while after my first time but eventually grew apart because we were at different places in our lives. I haven't spoken to him in a long time but when I found out the news I was so upset and cried all last night. I've always cared for him even though I stopped having feelings for him. Is this normal to be this upset?
