Foley bulb or cervidil?

Question

Hey all!! I am a FTM and am having to be induced this Thursday at 38w5d due to ITP. My doc will be checking me Wednesday to see if I have progressed further than 1cm and 60%. If I have not, she is going to admit me wed night to either have the foley bulb or cervidil inserted. Which is less painful and works quickest? TIA. Starting to feel anxious!

I had cervidil, you don't feel anything at all besides mild cramps and that's going to happen with either one, let's you know it's working :)

Both are in for 12 hours (unless you go into active labor). Just like labor in general it's very different for people. Some people sleep right through both, some come unglued. Hard to know where guy will fall.

I've never experienced the Foley bulb.  But I've had cervidil that was given around 6pm and was able to get some sleep during the night before real labor started.  I did not mind the cervidil at all and was glad it kick started my labor.

I would definitely choose cervadil from a nurses perspective because it had the solution to help soften your cervix and I feel it kick starts labor better. It isn't painful at all and sits right against your cervix where as the foley they inflate to pretty much force dilation.

I had a great experience with foley bulb. Felt slight contractions, but nothing major. They inserted foley at like 4pm in a Sunday, gave me an ambien to sleep that night (slept like a rock), got pitocin at 9am next day and my daughter was born by 3:30pm :)

I've never had cervidil.

I have had the bulb and it was a little unpleasant going in.  They fill it with saline water and it helps you dilate.  The contractions for me start off really strong.  I wanted to start this way because it was "natural."  Once your dilated to a certain amount it falls out basically.

It worked for a little while and "fell out."  The contractions continued until I fell asleep.  After like 4 in the morning the contractions stopped and they started me on pitocin.  The pitocon contractions got stronger as he dose increased.

Cervadel doesn't hurt at all it just sits in your vagina for a long time..... I'm not sure about the Foley bulb never had one or seen one put in but......having had urinary foleys..... Foleys are painful. My answer would probably be cervadel.  But as for now you can start at home with evening primrose oil they help soften your cervix as well. You can take the daily maximum by mouth and insert several capsules near your cervix before bedtime.

Ask maybe if breaking you water is an option and then Pitocin.  I didn't have cervidil
Or the bulb but I was induced twice. Each time I arrived at the hospital at 645 and they broke my water and administered Pitocin! One labor was 10.5 my first and the second was 4 hours.

I had the bulb and they could only inflate it to 40 cc when it should have been to 60. I couldn't handle 50 when they filled it to 50 I was instantly in tears and made them drop down to 40. Everyone is different and handles everything differently. I wouldn't do the bulb again. It did work instantly however and labor started strong.

I had cervadil and I don't remember it being uncomfortable at all! They said some women end up going into labor just from the cervadil alone so they don't need pitocin, unfortunately that didn't work for me. But, that was by far the easiest part of my labor 😀
