Writing content for parents is a big responsibility, and we take it very seriously. Our goal is always to make sure our articles are medically accurate, thoroughly sourced, and as clearly and helpfully written as possible.
Our team’s editorial standards are as follows.
Sourcing
To create our content, our writers draw on authoritative sources, including:
- Major governmental organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
- International organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Membership associations for healthcare professionals, such as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
- Major hospitals and affiliated universities
- Peer-reviewed studies published in reputable medical journals
All factual claims in our articles that came from external sources are immediately followed by citations. You can view a full list of the sources we used at the bottom of each article.
Medical review process
All of our articles are reviewed before publication by a team of independent medical professionals, including OB/GYNs, pediatricians, and dermatologists. Our reviewers extensively fact-check every claim in each piece and review all outside sources to ensure that they’re up to date, are being cited correctly, and that they reflect the genuine consensus in the medical field.
In addition to this independent medical review, Glow’s editors also subject all content to a separate, internal fact-check and review.
Checking our content is not a one-time event; we regularly re-evaluate it and update it whenever necessary. Updates are subjected to the same medical review process as new articles.
Note: Although doctors rigorously check our articles, the content we produce does not constitute medical advice and is no substitute for care from your personal physician or another qualified healthcare professional. Our content (and online content in general) should not be used to self-diagnose or make health-related decisions.
Language
We do our best to write our articles in plain language, even when they address complicated topics. Whenever possible, we avoid jargon, and when it’s necessary to use medical terminology that isn’t in common usage, we clearly define it. Our goal is always to break our material down so that it’s comprehensible to the widest possible audience.
Editorial independence and journalistic standards
Our writers and editors follow a standard policy of journalistic ethics. We strive to keep our content objective and factual, with any potential conflicts of interest openly disclosed and any opinion-based writing clearly labeled as such.
Product reviews
When we review products, we evaluate them according to objective rubrics. We obtain our information about them from several sources, including:
- Our own internal product testing process
- Other online reviews from verified users
- Commentary from Glow’s community of parents
Our reviews may feature affiliate links to online marketplaces—if you click a link and make a purchase, we receive a commission. We maintain a strict policy of editorial independence, and our relationships with our affiliates and advertisers do not affect the content of our reviews.
Corrections
As mentioned, we regularly revisit our published articles and check them for accuracy. If you notice any errors in our content, please let us know; we’ll investigate and correct them.
