My friends were crashing at mine for a movie marathon night and we went out at about 1:00am to quickly grab a snack at the local 24/7. We saw a family and an old couple at an atm, a car then pulled up to it and we heard shouting and then a woman clearly screaming out to her husband or brother or something, my friend looked round and quickly realised they were being mugged at knifepoint.

None of us had a phone on us to call the police cuz the supermarket was not even 100m away, so we briskly walked down a side road to try and loop around to get to my house and call the police. After waiting for a bit and coming back out on the road quite a distance away (we needed to cross it to get to my house). We crossed the road and started walking towards my house, we then all heard (4 of us) a groaning sound which was barely intelligible and quite guttural sounding but we all interpreted to be saying something along the lines of “please help me”. I starting freaking out and crying as we walked away too scared to turn around and even check what it was, when we got back to mine we called the police immediately n recounted what we had heard and everything.

The next day the police called us back to say no signs of a stabbing occurred but there were other reports of muggings in the area that night.

Me and my friends were convinced we all heard the groaning of a person that day, what we assumed to be someone crying out after being stabbed in the chest or oesophagus struggling to talk. It couldn’t have been a partier or anything because otherwise it wouldn’t have sounded how I’d describe it “zombie like”. The voice was clearly humanoid and wasn’t a car or anything for sure, my friends were discussing it as soon as we got back.

I’ve heard of group hallucinations before but I wasn’t sure if this could’ve been it. I haven’t heard of any like this before, only mass ones and aren’t purely auditory. Does anyone have any ideas?
