TL:DR at bottom

You may have noticed I mentioned the loss of my baby in my welcome post. In case you wanted to know more about what happened so you can be informed if you start feeling similarly, I’m here to share my story.

I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis in October of 2018. I found out I was pregnant on New Years morning 2019. Everything was good and normal and I was due September 12th.

At 6 weeks pregnant (2 weeks after finding out) I went into a Gastroparesis flare. Turns out this is called hyperemesis gravidarum (hg) and it happens to some women even without Gastroparesis.

I was so sick I couldn’t get out of bed, never needed to use the bathroom, couldn’t keep down anything, not even sucking on ice because I was throwing up constantly, even if I didn’t have anything to throw up. I lost so much weight so fast and went to the er several times.

I was never admitted. Never offered to be admitted, always treated with an iv and meds and sent home only to be sick again a few hours later and have to go back.

I don’t remember hardly anything because I was so so sick. I went to the er so many times and everyone including my ob/gyn said everything was fine and it was a strong pregnancy, yet I was pretty certain that I myself was dying.

I have no idea why I didn’t talk to my Gastro about it. I feel like such an idiot but I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t do anything.

For 4 miserable weeks I became a skeleton with boobs (thanks hormones!) and literally thought I was going to die. I lost the baby at 10 weeks on February 16th and I honestly don’t think we both would have survived the pregnancy. Not unless my doctors got their heads out of their butts because I clearly couldn’t think for myself being so malnourished and not even remembering half of any of it. I feel like my Gyno could have called my Gastro. I feel like the er doctors should have admitted me after being going back over and over for the same thing.

I did talk to my Gastro after I lost the baby and could eat and think again. I felt like it was all my fault of course but there was nothing I could have done alone to fix that. I needed drs to listen and they didn’t. My Gastro decided if I ever wanted to get pregnant again we would need a plan and I might have to stay in the hospital. I am very grateful he offered that in advance and so relieved he wants to put a plan in pace in case it happens again. Not “don’t get pregnant” but “we can handle this with the right plan”. It has been two years and the same partner and I are ready to try again in the fall. Time to go make that plan :)

So I’m not sure if I’m allowed to get pregnant.

Had to get on birth control before the surgery and am still on it. I have an appointment next week to discuss my options.

TL:DR

I lost the baby 2 years ago at 10 weeks from hyperemesis gravidarum bc of my gastroparesis. Dr said if I ever want to get pregnant again we need a solid plan in place in case I get sick again. We want to try this fall so I’m going to make that plan!
