Second baby tips ❤

So our little lady is 19 months, and am due baby number 2 in June 2022. Any advice or tips from those that have already had number 2? Since the 18 month regression, our daughter still wakes up once a night for a little milk. I don't mind this too much as she settles back to sleep quite quickly, unless there's something else going on.Thanks in advance 💛

Try to give your first as much attention and one on one time as you can. It will be hard in the beginning but once baby starts needing you less find time for it. My May 2020 baby was my second, my son was born in May 2018 and he actually accepted the transition fine. We talked about mommy having a baby in her belly and how he’s going to be able to show the baby how to do all the fun things he can do. We let him hold her anytime he asked (safely of course) and let him help in any way he wanted. We talked about how he’s a big boy so he gets to do _____ but his sister is still a baby so she can’t yet. It wasn’t until the last month or so as my 2020 baby got more active and more assertive (running around more, taking toys, etc) and more clingy with me that he started to act out a bit more. We started making it a point to really start giving him some mommy one on one time and daddy one on one time and it’s helped SO much!

Worried about talking for my 18 month old

Hi moms! So when do toddlers start talking? Like how many words should 18 months say? My son can say mama, dadda, hi, and bye! When I say things to him like close the door, clap hands, where’s eyes and nose he understands all of that! Should I be worried? I try to talk to him at home sometimes but I get tired with work so I don’t have time to read to him sometimes! I get sad and worried 🥺 thank you!

My first was like this he didn't take off until he was 2 1/2. His younger brother is the complete opposite he's been a chatterbox but had I had them in reverse order I would have probably been worried.

are your babies talking alot

I'm not sure how advanced they should be in vocabulary at this agemy son saymamdadPeytonsamnanagrandad hettieyoghurtyesnodummycaruh ohI ask him to repeat words and he does, but then he will never say them again, I think my daughter spoke alot more at this age and I'm wondering what is classed as normalhis nursery haven't mentioned anything mind. he is fantastic at following instruction, he knows exactly what we are sayingupdate: this last week he seems to have come on leaps and bounds, he says a few more wordsrow row row your boatbabysorrythank youcome here I want...yoghurt usually loltreelight on (for the xmas tree)loads and is just smiling and happy all the time.

At 18 months they should have 10-15 words. My toddler has more like 50 and can string a few phrases together

Hitting..

My 19 month old has started hitting me...and only me. No one else. How do I get him to stop? When I'm stern with him and say no thats not nice to hit mommy, he just laughs he thinks it's funny. I try not to yell and I feel like a spank on the butt won't so much as this age. So what can I do to get him to stop?? I want to nip this in the butt!!

It could be an attention thing. My LO acts out when she needs attention and doesn’t know how to get it positively. I give the attention - uninterrupted - and then try to remember to do it more often to show her she doesn’t need to act out for my attention. All behavior is communication! Try to hone in on what’s going on in that moment and see if you can locate a trigger (Feeling ignored, another child just got attention from you, you were on your phone…etc)Hitting kids aren’t “bad” kids. They just don’t know how to communicate what they need/want. Good luck to you!

Help me

My 19 month old has been waking up from 1am to 4:30am every night for the past week. She cries bloody murder until she’s gagging and almost throwing up. When I go into her room she immediately wants out if the crib and wants to play. She will NOT go back to sleep until 4:30am. I’m beside myself. I have no idea what to do. I’m exhausted and have a full time job. Please help. Does anyone know what’s going on or have any suggestions? Please, I’m desperate.

It's happened to us a few times. We give tylenol and lay down and put on a TV show or a book. We try to keep it dark.

Not talking?

Anyone else's kiddo not talking yet? The pediatrician seems completely unconcerned, but I can't help but worry. The only thing she says consistently is daddy. Everything else kinda comes and goes. Right now she says thank you ("da doo"), this, peekaboo ("bee boo"), and grandpa ("bee-pa"). She clearly understands most of what we say, and she can follow directions and she mimicks us a lot. Anyone have a similar experience?

We are starting speech therapy. My son was noted to have a delay. I’ve been trying everything I can think of. He also had a ton of ear infections and had to have tubes placed. The past few weeks he seems open to trying to mimic words more and is picking up vocabulary so I’m hoping speech therapy will get him right on track. He does sign mealtime words and understands nearly everything.

Teething/ eating/ waking struggles

Our lady had finally started sleeping through, and it was bliss. Ever since her incisors, and now it looks like last molars, she's not eating much, and wakes once or more a night wanting milk. Most nights she's have a drink and go back to sleep, but some she's fighting going back down. Am struggling as pregnant again, and so tired.Any words of wisdom? 😴

Wish I had advice the last 8 weeks have been a nightmare for us on and off as well. He's been working on 8 teeth in that span. I'm not pregnant but my husband just has surgery on his shoulder so it's been all me the last few weeks it's exhausting. I keep trying to tell myself the end is near with these teeth.

Speech assessment

Freaking out here. Doc has referred us for a speech assessment 😕. I assumed he’d talk more when he was ready. He understands EVERYTHING I say to him and follows basic instruction. Any experience? What happens at assessment?

Sleep regression

I'm losing my mind 😫 my daughter has been waking crying several times throughout the past few nights, a couple times during her naps, and now she's fighting going to bed at night. To top it off I'm due with baby # 2 on the 12th but likely being induced in a few days and I was really trying to cherish my last nights of decent sleep before this baby comes. 🥲😭😫

Is she hungry? Could be going through a growth spurt and she's not eating enough during the day. Honest to God for me it's so hard to know if my baby is full or not I was at my mom's house one day and we were traveling all day so she didn't really eat well and she would not go to sleep but when she started to cry I'm like oh my God you're hungry I know that cry so I fed her a boiled egg and some yogurt I think and she was so tired after that she fell asleep right away. If that's not the issue maybe she's sleeping too much during the day honestly I had such a problem but now I cut her down to only one nap and she cannot sleep past 3:00 p.m.

Covid has hit the household

Me, my husband, my 5 year old and 18 month have all got covid. This is day 8 of isolation and quite frankly I am going insane.Neither child has had any symptom and are both happy and acting as usualI was bad for 2 days and my partner for 1 day and then I was wasnt feeling right for about 4 days, going dizzy if I over exerted myself, but the last 2 days I am completely fine. For us it was just like having the flu, we are the lucky ones as I do know people who have died from the virus.2 more days till freedom, we are all testing negative now thankfully, but understand we have to stay in isolation :(Has anyone else had this and their children?

Just 4 year old had it in our house... he was sent home from school with upset tummy they asked me to get him tested as he had been falling asleep in class. He slept the whole day after that then was fine, myself, husband and 1.5 all tested negative 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blood disorder

Nora is being referred to hematology to determine if she has a blood or clotting disorder. Her anemia has gotten worse and she isn’t tolerating iron supplements any more. When she was born, she had borderline polycythemia so I’m worried there is an underlying condition she’s had.

Yes talking in sentences for a while now. One of my favorite things she says is “Mama, get back here!” Least favorite is probably when she refuses food and says “No I don’t like it!”

My daughter won’t eat ground beef but she’ll eat roast, steak, sausage, bacon, hotdogs, kielbasa, tender chicken no problem. I think it’s a texture thing.

Baby girl loves this sippy cup. Although I’ve noticed it drips when taken on a plane. And you have to make sure it’s completely closed but that goes for any closed cup.

How to tame a toddlers hair?

My daughters hair is a curly birds nest. I try to style it but it doesn’t really hold up. What is best for curly hair?

My girl has long Goldilocks curls and we use the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus line, only combing when wet, and doing a light comb after bath with leave in conditioner. We also only wash 2-3x a week. Usually 2.

Any mom has a child diagnosed with autism?

Although it's pretty early still, any moms suspects autism, sensory problems, etc. With their little ones? Disclaimer: I know having some signs doesn't mean anything nor saying yall are professionals yadda yadda, but if so, what was some signs your kids had that made you suspicious or your pediatrician suspicious???

My son is on the spectrum. We very much could see the signs at 12-18 months. He wasn’t pointing to show us or things he was interested in, delay in speech, (he was also delayed in all milestones, really) he had a oral sensory issue with food, when he started walking, he would parallel run across the the room back and forth sort of in his own little world, there was no interest in toys to the extent that other toddlers his age played, obsessed with the alphabet and numbers (he watched the same video over and over again) and the key take sign of them all: the stimming of rocking back and forth. He actually started the rocking at 9 months old. We just thought at that time that it was a learned behavior. He occasionally would flap his hands. Now my son displayed some of the classic symptoms of autism, but there are others that are unique to the child. For example: my son listens to his name, keeps eye contact and plays okay with others (some of his social interaction is still in the shy/awkward stage). We got in him into early intervention with OT/Speech at 18 months old and have seen lots of improvements. He will be starting ABA (2x a week) in January.

Instagram Recommendation for you

For anyone who is struggling with getting their 18 month old to play independently, go follow JERRICASANNES on Instagram. She has amazing information that has really served our family 🙏🏻 Our little guy now gets a few mins of screen time a day (Trash Truck only) and the rest of the day he plays by himself. He’s much more creative & fun since we have taken her advice. Just wanted to share :)

We deal with some separation anxiety. She cry’s at drop off but they’ve told me it’s all an act now. She usually stops by the time I get to my car lol. I get pictures like this

My period came back immediately while eb but it took a while to get back to a normal length cycle. We started ttc again at 5 months pp and it took 12. If it would have taken longer we had planned to go to a fetility specialist for suggestions.
