Do you stick to a budget each month?

If you do a budget, any tips? Any secrets on how to save more?

We desperately want to budget and stick to it but always find ourselves getting back in the rut of living week to week.  We both hate it.....and we have plans to sit down and work on a budget and go back over our workbook and DVD from the Dave Ramsey class we took a few years ago.

You can use mint.com and tie your bank accounts to it. Mint categories your expenses and shows where you are spending the most.

We use YNAB. I love it. It's the first thing we've tried that has consistently worked for us. It does cost money, but it's helped us save a lot more than it costs.

Sort of. We have our paychecks automatically disburse into several different savings (sub accounts), for various bills (and actual savings) and we just started taking out cash every week for groceries/eating out, and when that runs out we don't get any more until the next paycheck. I get a little frustrated sometimes because my SO, while great at saving up for short term things, totally freaks whenever I bring up saving for anything larger, say a newer car fund. And I KNOW the extra money is there to save...

We get paid the 1st and 15th so I set it up where $100 from each pay check is deposited into our savings after everything is paid we still have around $540  extra $310 of that goes toward food and household supplies what's left is gas and festivities

I just started using EveryDollar. I'm not great with it yet but I expect a few months of adjustment to get the budget right. Maybe just give yourselves some time before getting frustrated.

I write our weekly budget every week up to 3 months so we can also do things on a whim. Like a flea market or out to dinner or movies

We're very strict with our budget.

We get paid on the 1st and 15th, and everything is accounted for based off of what paycheck it comes out of. (Ex rent on the 1st, but the gas bill is the 23rd)

We add the same amount to our savings each To paycheck, and spend only a set amount on groceries (we shop twice a month) and gas.

When we account for everything, we know how much should be left over after each paycheck, and we use that to spend on things like gifts or date nights. Anything left over at the end of the month is extra we put into savings.
