Yorkie at pound?

Question

Would you be hesitant to buy a purebred Yorkie from the pound? They're an expensive dog so I'm hesitant to buy him thinking maybe he has some health issues. Opinions?

Dogs end up at the pound for lots of (shitty) reasons. Their owners are moving, the owner died, they ran away, they come from puppy mills, they come from hoarders....who knows. If you're ready to commit for a long term friend....take a chance.

All animals regardless of health problems, age, disability and breed need homes.

All the animals in a shelter is there for one reason or another. Almost all of them not very nice reasons.

But if you are going to adopt make sure it is for the right reasons and not a status reason.

We got a pure bread GORGEOUS German shorthair from the pound, and judging by the real, hand detailed and gem encrusted leather collar that came with her (tacky if you ask me) someone probably paid a lot for her. 
When we got her home we found out she had an issue staying at home, and we figure that's why she was in the pound. For running away. It doesn't have to be health issues that land a good dog in a pound.

My chihuahua was a rescue. They kept him in a crate in his own pee and poop. When he started showing anxiety and aggression, they would kick the crate. When they did let him out, they literally punted him like a football. He lost a lot of teeth and had nerve damage in his neck for a while. It took a few years with me to be okay with people and to this day he still has to feel someone out multiple times to trust, but he is much better. He used to scream when new people came over.

I wouldn't want a Yorkie period personally. 
However I've adopted three cocker spaniels from the pound. The first had no health issues, the second was a mess of health issues (the breed has a predisposition for all of them but it was a mess) and the third has had better health than we expected (shes ancient and mostly blind we knew she was bad going in)
It's roulette. But it's roulette with any dog from a shelter. You have to decide if you personally the pros outweigh the cons.
