What's a courthouse wedding like?

SO and I have been together for nearly 6 years, engaged for 2. It's time to tie the knot finally this year, but we are both loners, and don't have many friends. We think spending money on our honeymoon than a wedding ceremony/reception is a better idea. So we're going to elope and have a courthouse ceremony. Just a few questions for people who did the same. Will I still be able to walk down the aisle? Do you have to pay for it or just pay for the wedding license/certificate? Is it romantic? Can u bring your own music? Did you regret it? I'd love to hear your experience so please share.  Thanks 😊

Why don't you look into getting married somewhere tropical? Then you get to have your wedding/honeymoon all in one. Plus you will have gorgeous photos 😊

If you get married in the courtroom chances are you will be able to walk down the aisle. There is usually a "coordinator" (clerk) that handles all the details and if you want to bring music, they will typically accommodate your requests.

My husband and I got married in the judge's office and it was quick, straight to the point and perfect. I would recommend getting a bouquet and a boutineer for your fiancé. The clerk will take pics with your phone and you'll want them.

You'll pay for the marriage license and ceremony. In Texas they have the twogether program. Basically, you take 8 hrs of counseling (we found a free class that we finished in one day) It reduces your license cost by $50 and waives the 3 day waiting period.

In total we paid the State of Texas $62 to get married. Got married on a Friday morning, squeezed a shitton of family in the office (because my aunts are rebels), a reception lunch that literally saved us thousands, a modest yet kickasss honeymoon, bought our first home and pregnant with our first - all in 7 months.

Best decision ever.

It probably depends on the courthouse out choose. The one by me allows you to walk down.... not sure of music. Call them or go down there. I know my next wedding will be at the courthouse 😊 good luck

Mine at the courthouse was through a window.. There was no isle.. There was paper work, witnesses, and our vows... Its not a wedding.. Its a simple ceremony

No use don't want a courthouse wedding my first wedding was there aka a regastry office and I would never do it again I would rather have. Proper wedding and that's what we are planning this time round to have a wedding in the back yard. So it's a big fat No to a courthouse wedding

I am from Phoenix, AZ and I got married at a courthouse last year. I had to go to a city office first to pay for the marriage license and called a courthouse to schedule an appointment to get married. We waited at the courthouse about 90 minutes because there was about ten other couples getting married as well. They ask for two witnesses, if I couldn't get any I just paid $10 for a worker there to be a witness. The ceremony itself lasted about three minutes and was very quick, nothing romantic and just straight to the point. No walking down the aisle, no music, just "you're now married, good luck." If something like that doesn't bother you, I'd say go for it. I was happy with my decision, I wanted a marriage not a big party 😆

My hubs and I got married in a courthouse. You have to pay for your marriage license before hand and you have to pay for the court system to marry you. All together it was less then $80. You have to provide two witnesses (we had another couple that was there witness for us). There was no walking down any asile, you go in and stand in front of the judge while they pronounce you. It was very quick, the judge signs your marriage license and then that's it!

We paid for the marriage license had to wait 3 days after getting it to go back and do the ceremony which we also had to pay for. They took us to this plain room with a little alter nothing fancy and asked the normal questions a minister would ask during the ceremony we kissed walked out went home and picked up our marriage license 2 days later.
