3 years to soon to start planning/paying for a wedding?

Honestly it's a personal preference. My fiancé and I left ourselves 1 year (except I bought my dress earlier than that because I fell in love with it). And everything is going great! He makes good money and our wedding has a $5000 budget (not including honeymoon) so we're doing just fine!

We planned our wedding in a little less than 2 months. We were engaged in July and got married at the end of August. We thankfully didn't pay for anything as we belonged to a very helpful ward, (we also became LDS) and they helped where they could. It was beautiful though. I was so amazed. But whatever works for you.

At 3 years I would just keep track of ideas and trends and not make concrete plans as your taste my change closer to your wedding date . BUT it is smart to start saving now as it can give you more options as to things you want at your wedding or a nicer honeymoon/ or after ! :)

I think it's too long because 3 years out, likely means you don't have an exact set date, so your wants for theme/color may change. This happened to me, so I speak from experience. If you already can afford to be married and are just waiting for some other reason, then the date changing is minuscule and planning now isn't a huge deal (unless you feel you may get sick of your color/theme before the three years is up). But, if you are basing three years because you can't afford to be married yet - definitely wait until your date is set and 100% certain. So like a year out :) otherwise, you'll end up with a bunch of winter wedding decor that you purchased and don't end up using because you actually end up getting married in July - like me 😂

3 years is a good time to be able to start paying everything off, then it won't stretch your budget to much when it comes to your day to day living :) 
I payed all mine off over a year and I wish I'd given myself a bit more time 😊

My husband and I were engaged for 3 years. My ideas about the kind of wedding I wanted changed a million times. You have no idea where you'll be in 3 years. I originally wanted a local wedding (NJ), then I switched to NY, we ended up having a destination wedding in Maine. Always wanted indoor, it ended up being a backyard wedding. I would hate to see you put down a deposit on something youight change your mind about 3 years from now.

Start some pinterest boards, see what's out there. Another piece of advice: after being engaged for 3 years and hypothetically planning the wedding, when the time finally came to ACTUALLY plan it, I had a rough time gaining momentum. Just something to keep in mind. Pick a date a year out and get that venue booked.

I think whatever works for you.  I planned mine in almost 2 years.  I loved it because I could pay for everything ands didnt owe a thing afterwards. Weeks before the wedding everything was paid and I didn't have to stress about it
