Clearblue digital OPK from circle to smiley face

I took a opk test this morning, and I got a blank circle. I felt like my CM was getting heavier throughout the day though, so took another in the evening, and I got a solid smiley face. Why would it just skip the blinking smiley face in a matter of 12 hours? Confusing.
